Clarisonic Mia 2

clarisonic-mia-7

So, a while back I was given the opportunity from ProductTestingUSA.com to try out a Clarisonic Mia 2 ! 🙂 I was pretty stoked because I’d been hearing about them and heard loads of great things.

Unfortunately, I’m not someone who splurges on everything I like — it takes me years to pep talk myself into buying some things. (Example: any of the Naked palettes .. I’m in love with them <3 … yet, I still haven’t talked myself into spending $56 a piece. Why must you be so expensive?! 😐)

Anyways, I’ve been really loving this cleansing brush! It doesn’t work like your typical cleansing brush – it uses sonic speeds and pulses which cleanses your face more thoroughly.

Here’s how Clarisonic explains it:

Unlike spinning devices, our patented sonic technology works with skin’s natural elasticity, oscillating at a sonic frequency that produces over 300 movements per second. The resulting flexing action works to loosen dirt and oil, removing deep-seated impurities from pores and priming skin to better absorb topical treatments.”

Sounds cool, right?

Sooo.. my original face-washing routine was: grab lots of products, clean my face for like 5 mins, splash hot water on my face and then cold water, and then put lotion, etc on. After using the Clarisonic, my routine was cut down to 3 mins – tops! 🙂 I simply follow the face washing routine (twice) of: 10 seconds – forehead, 10 seconds – nose and chin, 20 seconds – one cheek, 20 seconds – the other cheek. Clarisonic recommends you do one round of 20 secs for chin and nose and then 20 for forehead and 10 for each cheek , but I don’t have very oily T-zones so I switched it up. I find that this works great for me. 🙂

I’ll admit that it took me a bit to get used to it. Having had a spinning brush before this, I expected a similar feeling. After putting the brush to my face, I realized it is very gentle and doesn’t move all over the place. Instead, it just pulses super fast but not in an uncomfortable way. After one wash using this, my skin felt amazing! 🙂

clarisonic-mia-11

Here’s some cool features it has:

  • 2 Speeds – Delicate and Universal. I used delicate the first two weeks because I’ve got sensitive skin.
  • Cleans your skin 6x better than using just your hands!
  • A one minute timer that pulses when you need to move to the next zone.
  • It’s rechargeable & also waterproof 😀 Hooray!
  • Has a 2 year warranty.
  • You can switch out the brush head. They’ve got one for sensitive skin, acne, deep pore cleansing, body, combination skin, and several others. (Basically one for everyone. :))

By the way, the charger is freaking cool! 🙂 It’s magnetic so it snaps right on and it vibrates and makes a noise when it’s connected. In order to know everything is charged, you’ll see a light going off and on around the “on” button and when it’s charged fully the light will go solid.

clarisonic-mia-12

I feel like the battery lasts a good while. I can use my cleanser for half a week to a week using it twice daily and nightly.

Over-all, I’ve been loving this cleansing brush! 🙂 It’s been in my cleansing regimen for the past few months and I feel like my skin has stayed mostly clear, the texture is much better and my skin is verrry clean after using it. My skin doesn’t look so hot when I’m not using it.

I would warn you that the first week or 2 using it – you will break out. It’s not because this brush is irritating your skin or anything like that but rather it’s cleaning your skin so well that all those impurities are coming out. Wait it out.. keep using it.. and thank me later. <3 If you use this right, you’ll love it.

Do any of you own a Clarisonic cleansing brush? What are your thoughts?

Cult Perfumes Book and Elements Perfumed Candles

cult-perfumes

If you’ve not seen the book Cult Perfumes: The World’s Most Exclusive Perfumeries, you should definitely get your hands on it. Cult Perfumes, by Tessa Williams, is an exploratory book that details more than 25 different perfumeries around the world. Not only that, but you get to know the history of perfumes – how far back they can be found, as well as what they were made of, how they’re made, and who made them.

In this book you learn that perfume has not only been a huge part of the beauty world, but it’s been used to cure illnesses such as the Bubonic Plague as well as depression, headaches, and other mental and physical ailments.

perfumes

Some of the perfumeries noted in this book are :

Diptyque (a Paris-based company who also makes candles)

Floris (England’s oldest perfumery – started in 1730! Also, the second oldest perfumery in the world.)

Jo Malone London (A brand that’s now owned by EstĂ©e Lauder but was started in an apartment by Jo Malone who aimed to bring new and uncomplicated fragrances out to the public. After starting a shop, her fragrances were noticed by high-profile celebrities and business took off. )

Santa Maria Novella (First founded in 1221 and then officially opened publically in 1612, they make Pot-Pourri, soaps, as well as perfumes.)

If you’re a big fan of perfumes, I would highly recommend this book to you. It’s a well-written, and in depth look at perfume and exclusive perfumeries.

Along with Cult Perfumes: The World’s Most Exlusive Perfumeries, Tessa has created candles based on the 4 elements: Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. You can find them in both London at Roullier White and now in the USA at Scent Bar in Los Angeles! 🙂

Fire is meant to be reminiscent of sitting by a fire in a log cabin. It has notes of Vetivert (a tall grass found in India and Tahiti), Tonka ( similar to vanilla), wood, Patchouli, Coconut, Vanilla caramel and hints of smoke.

Water was made to be invigorating and to heighten the senses. You’ll find notes of citrus, Jasmine, and floral notes. Sounds like my type of fragrance 🙂

Earth makes you think of walking trails and being outdoors. It has hints of Geranium, lemon and orange, pepper, Patchouli and Sandalwood, Cedar wood and leather.

Air reminds you of being on a tropical island because it’s citrus-y and invigorating. In this there are grapefruit scents, as well as ginger root, lemon grass, coriander seeds, and lemon peel.

Tessa is extremely passionate about both her book and her candles so if these sound like something you’d like, please support her by checking them out. 🙂

and again, her candles can be found at Roullier White in London and Scent Bar in Los Angeles, California.

Acure Organics

acure-products

I’ve been using an amazing brand of products for my skin for about the past few months and I love it. The brand is called Acure Organics and they’re a family owned company who make paraben-free, sulfate-free, and synthetic fragrance-free products for bodies, faces, and even products for babies. They don’t test on animals – which is awesome. What’s sweet is that Acure was founded as a way to honor the founder’s grandmother who battled beast cancer for years. They wanted to provide good products that promote healthy lifestyles, while also raising money for breast cancer research.

What I’ve been impressed with, is the fact that when I buy one of their products, I know I’m going to get a product that has exceptional ingredients that are good for my skin. Not only that, but their products are affordable for all budgets. 🙂 You can find some of their products in Target!

Sensitive Facial Cleanser –  Cleanses your skin while not drying it out. I have used this every day this past month and love it. It lathers up nicely and when used with my Clarisonic Mia, my skin feels incredibly soft. My skin has also stayed clear while using this cleanser. It doesn’t have much of a scent so if you’re someone who isn’t much into scented cleansers, you’ll like this one.

What it contains: Coconut Oil, Rooibos, Acai, Chamomile, Argan Oil, Olive Oil, Probiotics, CoQ10, Pumpkin Seed and Sea Buckthorn Seed Oil, Vitamin E and some other ingredients including Omega Fatty Acids.

Price: $9.99

A moisturizing mask that draws out impurities. This mask is so gentle on the skin and leaves your skin feeling incredibly soft. It feels somewhat slimy and goopy – but it’s fantastic. It spreads on thinly and evenly and it doesn’t dry. I had had a few bumps on my skin and within the week they were gone. I made sure to leave this mask on the full time for optimal results and I think it worked wonderfully. I love the instructions!

What it contains: Acai Berry, Blackberry, Rosehips, Rooibos, French Green Clay, Chorella Growth Factor, Cocoa Butter, Algae, Sea Buckthorn, CoQ10, Argan Oil, Sage and Spearmint Essential Oils, Peony Stem Cell and Sweet Iris Stem Cell, plus some extra ingredients.

Price: $12.99

acure-day-cream

Acure Day Cream – A light-weight moisturizer that helps keep skin firm while keeping away free radicals. I really like this day cream because it smells citrus-y, which I love, and I don’t feel like it irritates my skin. A lot of times I put moisturizers on, my skin gets red and bothered. I use this both night and day and I’ve never felt like my pores are getting clogged when wearing this cream.

What it contains: Red Mandarin, Vitamin E, Clove, Evening Primrose Oil (wonderful for your skin!), Sunflower Seed Oil, Blackberry, Pomegranate, Chamomile, Gotu Kola, Probiotic, Argan Oil and other ingredients.

Price: $16.99

Unscented Argan Oil Cleansing Towelettes – Wipes you can use for both face and body to remove dirt and makeup. You can find these in Target, which is where I bought them. I have used these a bunch of times and I don’t mind them but I don’t love them. I think my skin is too sensitive to use these. The texture feels like fabric, which is really nice but I don’t feel like it gets my makeup off amazingly. When I used these near my eyes it burns. It has lots of oils in it but it also has Citric Acid, which I think is why it burns. I would not recommend using these near your eyes. I haven’t been able to get my eye makeup off well with these either, which is a big thing I look for in makeup wipes. The other thing I don’t particularly like is that these wipes lather on your face but I think because my skin is dry it just kind of sits on my skin and doesn’t particularly scrub or really clean my face. These may work wonderfully for someone else and I know there’s some great reviews on them – so, if you feel like trying them – I say do. I have loved almost all the Acure products I’ve tried minus these.

What it contains: Olive Oil, Water, Sesame Seed Oil, Argan Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Vitamin E, Citric Acid, other ingredients

Price: $6.99 – On sale for $5.00

Over-all, I really like this brand. You can tell they put a lot of really great ingredients into their products and that they care about their products. I think their pricing is fair and their products last quite a while.

I’m Back!! And I Have a New Family Member!

Hello! Hope all of you are doing well. 🙂 Things have been a little insane on my end. Hence, my not being on here for quite a while. I really hate that. Searching for a new place, loads of packing by myself, moving, and getting said place set up, nannying, and recently adding a new pet addition to my family! 🙂 He’s seriously the cutest!

Bear-

Ahh! So anyways, meet Bear. I’m in love with this dog. He’s really sweet and reserved, but also a goofball. He loves getting to know new dogs and he’s very friendly with people and likes being petted and loved on.

My husband and I had wanted a dog for about 6+ years and we’d been moving around a lot and been in apartments and places that didn’t allow pets. So, we really wanted a place we could have a pet and possibly start a family.Bear-1

We had looked at dogs for probably a full year or so until we decided on a breed of dog we really loved and got to know — and that was the Akita. 🙂 Our first thoughts were to get a Husky but I’m super happy with the choice we made. It seems like all the Akitas we looked at were all very sweet and loving and not very hyper, which we liked.

So far, things have been great with him. I’ve started working with him and his crate and trying to teach him to go in it and to sit and lay — as well as come. He’s learned a few commands super quickly so I’m really happy about that. Some things are a work in progress, but it’s been amazing having him in our home!  He’s so fun and sweet.

How have you all been? Any exciting news?!

Jealous Body Scrub – Coconut + Coffee

jealous-body-scrub-packaging

Happy Easter weekend, beauties! 🙂 It’s been so beautiful this week. I’m loving Spring!

After coming out of winter, my skin has been so dry. I’m sure most of you have had those issues. A wonderful company contacted me a few weeks ago called Jealous Body Scrub. They wanted me to try their Coffee + Coconut scrub and to share my thoughts.

First Impressions

I love the smell of coconut and I love the smell of coffee. So, you can imagine, I love the smell of this scrub. When I first opened the bag it smelled like roasted coffee beans..very relaxing, in my opinion.

I thought the packaging was cute. I love the brown paper bag look and the teal coloring of the logo. The inside of the bag has got a liner so everything stays together. I didn’t bring the bag into the shower with me just because I wasn’t sure what would happen so I put a handful of scrub in a mug and placed it on a shelf in the shower.

How To Use

After you’ve wet your skin in the shower, take out 2-3 scoops of this scrub, rub in circular motions all over your body and leave it on for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, rinse it off.

Benefits

Exfoliates

Hydrates

Increases blood flow

Helps repair and replenish skin

Helps to diminish dry skin, varicose veins, acne, and other skin issues.

Over-all Impressions

This scrub feels incredible. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first used this. Some scrubs can be very harsh – especially when you have dry skin. I found using this to be super relaxing 🙂 I used it in both circular and back and forth motions on my skin and both felt great. After my shower, my skin felt very moisturized and soft. Even after using my Olay body soap, my skin felt very soft still. I used this even under my arms so that I could get my lymph nodes stimulated and my blood flowing. I have had some issues in the past with swollen lymph nodes. I feel like this scrub has worked very well so far. I have no complaints that I can think of. It says it takes 4 weeks to really see results with varicose veins so I will see how that goes. It does get slightly messy in the shower but everything can easily be washed away. Well worth the tiny mess in my opinion. 🙂

Retail price: $17.95
