Weekend Project: Mirrored Canvas

WEEKEND

This week’s weekend project is inspired by Pinksofoxy (now Christine Kobzeff), a vlogger from Youtube. 🙂 She made a really cool mirrored canvas and I wanted to try to make one as well. Definitely check out her videos. She has some really great ideas for projects and organization.

Here is what you’ll need for this project:

A mirror to break up

(As Christine said, I got the long mirror in the back in Lowes for 5 dollars.) The really cute mirrors were on clearance from $25 to $9! Those are actually for another project, but I thought I’d throw those in there. Gotta love a great deal.

Standard Grout Sponge

Ground Steel Ceramic Floor Trowel

Caulking Gun

Mirror Adhesive

Gloves

Bucket

2ftx2ft Plywood Paneling 1/8 thick or more

1inx2in Boards

Sanded Grout (any color you like)

supplies-for-project

border1I had my husband help me with this. We framed the back of the plywood paneling so that it would be sturdy and not flop around. This is where your screws and 1inx2in boards will come into play.

screwsYou can see here where we put the screws. We couldn’t find any the size we wanted. Since they ended up being long, we had the wood sit on its longer side.

mirror

After framing, you’ll want to break apart your mirror. We did this on a trash bag in the kitchen but I would recommend doing this outside. We live in an apartment so we could only do what we could.

assemblingmirrorStart assembling your mirror pieces how you want them. I loved the look of Christine’s starburst design so I wanted to go with a similar theme. Pretty much, you want to get an idea of where you’re going to glue them down without actually doing so.

jjjjjjNext, take your adhesive and start pressing your pieces into place. I let mine dry for 30 mins. to an hour just to be on the cautious side.

groutYou’ll want to now start mixing grout.  Follow the directions on the bag. 🙂

slather-it-onStart slathering the grout around the canvas with your sponge or you can use a grout spatula like we used. You want to cover everything.

smoothingI wore some gloves and smoothed everything down.

sponge-grout

Once you’ve got everything looking totally messy and covered, take your sponge, dip it in a bowl of water, wring it out, and  begin to (layer by layer) work the grout off the mirrored pieces. Do this in a smooth motion so everything looks even.

Let this dry for a day or so, wipe off the mirror pieces so there’s no cloudiness  on them, and you’re done!! :))

 The finished project.

I hope you’ll try this out. It does take a bit of work but it’s really fun. 🙂

Have a wonderful weekend!

Product Empties

Product Empties

I’m not one to really use up products that often.. so I thought I’d tell you my thoughts on some recent product empties.

Pure Silk – Rich & Luxurious Shave Cream: Raspberry Mist with Aloe

Pure Silk Shaving Cream Raspberry Mist

It goes on very foamy and gives a close, silky shave. I have never cut myself while using this so in my book that’s great. I honestly picked it up on a whim. Sometimes I just pick shower items at random when I’m in a hurry but I’m really glad I chose this one. The shaving cream’s can is made of rust-proof Aluminum, which I love. One of the hardest things to ever get off the shower is rust rings. I actually didn’t read the can until writing this review so when I had it in the shower I’d pick it up daily to see if there were rust rings and would you believe there weren’t any? 🙂 Really like this stuff.

Dr. Carver’s Easy Shave Butter

If you’ve ever tried Whish Shave Crave shaving cream, you’ll know that shave butter feels so smooth and silky. Unlike regular shaving cream, shave butter is like a gel/lotion consistency. I got this Dr. Carver’s Easy Shave Butter as a sample with my subscription to Dollar Shave Club. (I will tell you about that later.) 🙂 You get a really nice close shave with this and it’s great for sensitive skin like mine because you don’t get razor burn. It contains: Golden Barley, Prickly Pear Cactus, Oat Extract, Black Willow Bark as well as Algae. Prickly Pear Cactus is used for skin to help with cuts, and bruises and contains vitamins. Algae has amino acids as well as antioxidants so it keeps your skin soft. Oats are also great for your skin. 🙂 This shave butter’s scent is more for men in my opinion. It reminds me of a cologne, but I didn’t mind because it doesn’t last long. You can find their shave butter here: shave butter  or their website at DollarShaveClub.com .

Kroger – Pomegranate & Lemon Verbena Body Wash

Kroger Pomegranate Lemon Verbena Body Wash
As part of a BzzAgent opportunity, I got to try a few of Kroger’s beauty products for free. I got a coupon for a free body wash and this is the one I chose because it smelled really good. 🙂 At the top, you’ll see it says “Compare to Dove® go fresh® Pomegranate Lemon Verbena Revive Body Wash”. It does have a similar feel to Dove body wash. I like that it lathers very easily and isn’t too thick. It also doesn’t stay on your skin or dry it out which is really nice. I have dry skin as it is, so using this didn’t irritate it or dry it out further.

Wen – Fall (limited edition) Ginger Pumpkin Cleansing Conditioner

Wen Fall Ginger Pumpkin Conditioner

I’ve used Wen in the past, but never used it for a long time so I couldn’t give an accurate review on this until now. Here is what Wen says this product is :

WEN® Cleansing Conditioner is a revolutionary new concept in hair care. A 5-in-1 formula, this one product takes the place of your shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler and leave-in conditioner. It cleanses hair thoroughly without lathering or harsh ingredients. It’s designed not to strip your hair and scalp of natural oils, leaving your hair with more strength, moisture, manageability and better color retention.

I usually have dry and damaged hair that can get tangled at times. When first using this cleansing conditioner, I felt like I had to wash my hair afterwards because it seemed heavy and waxy. I told myself to not give up using it just because I’m not used to it and after using it for a week or two, I noticed my hair seems clean, smooth, shiny and I don’t have to wash it very often. When I flat-iron my hair, I don’t feel like I’m drying it out or going to have breakage. It feels strong. Not only that, but it’s got shine. I’m very happy for that. I would recommend this to those who have dry hair. I’m not sure how it would work with other hair types. Other than that, I think it smells pretty nice. It smells of pumpkin, cinnamon, and cloves. I don’t love the smell of cloves, but I don’t think this is bad. You can buy this at Wen.com

Crest 3D White Toothpaste

Crest 3D White Toothpaste Radiant Mint

If I’m being 100% honest, I can’t say I’ve seen a huge difference in my teeth after using this. I used it every single day, night and day, for a few months and it seems like most other toothpastes to me.

Pros: Has a nice, minty taste that’s not over-powering like some whitening toothpastes.
Nice gel consistency.

Cons: Didn’t see much difference in my teeth after using whole tube.

Over-all, I liked most the products I bought and would recommend almost all of them. If you’ve found some great brands with similar products, I’d love to hear about them.

CIAO!
