I’ve been loving my Milestone Baby cards. I’m not great at remembering dates and I love taking pictures, so it’s fun to be able to keep up with all the fun events in my baby girl’s life. It’s amazing how fast she’s grown and she learns so fast so there are always new things happening all the time to document.

Clarisonic Mia 2

clarisonic-mia-7

So, a while back I was given the opportunity from ProductTestingUSA.com to try out a Clarisonic Mia 2 ! 🙂 I was pretty stoked because I’d been hearing about them and heard loads of great things.

Unfortunately, I’m not someone who splurges on everything I like — it takes me years to pep talk myself into buying some things. (Example: any of the Naked palettes .. I’m in love with them <3 … yet, I still haven’t talked myself into spending $56 a piece. Why must you be so expensive?! 😐)

Anyways, I’ve been really loving this cleansing brush! It doesn’t work like your typical cleansing brush – it uses sonic speeds and pulses which cleanses your face more thoroughly.

Here’s how Clarisonic explains it:

Unlike spinning devices, our patented sonic technology works with skin’s natural elasticity, oscillating at a sonic frequency that produces over 300 movements per second. The resulting flexing action works to loosen dirt and oil, removing deep-seated impurities from pores and priming skin to better absorb topical treatments.”

Sounds cool, right?

clarisonic-mia-9

Sooo.. my original face-washing routine was: grab lots of products, clean my face for like 5 mins, splash hot water on my face and then cold water, and then put lotion, etc on. After using the Clarisonic, my routine was cut down to 3 mins – tops! 🙂 I simply follow the face washing routine (twice) of: 10 seconds – forehead, 10 seconds – nose and chin, 20 seconds – one cheek, 20 seconds – the other cheek. Clarisonic recommends you do one round of 20 secs for chin and nose and then 20 for forehead and 10 for each cheek , but I don’t have very oily T-zones so I switched it up. I find that this works great for me. 🙂

clarisonic-mia-10

I’ll admit that it took me a bit to get used to it. Having had a spinning brush before this, I expected a similar feeling. After putting the brush to my face, I realized it is very gentle and doesn’t move all over the place. Instead, it just pulses super fast but not in an uncomfortable way. After one wash using this, my skin felt amazing! 🙂

clarisonic-mia-11

Here’s some cool features it has:

  • 2 Speeds – Delicate and Universal. I used delicate the first two weeks because I’ve got sensitive skin.
  • Cleans your skin 6x better than using just your hands!
  • A one minute timer that pulses when you need to move to the next zone.
  • It’s rechargeable & also waterproof 😀 Hooray!
  • Has a 2 year warranty.
  • You can switch out the brush head. They’ve got one for sensitive skin, acne, deep pore cleansing, body, combination skin, and several others. (Basically one for everyone. :))

By the way, the charger is freaking cool! 🙂 It’s magnetic so it snaps right on and it vibrates and makes a noise when it’s connected. In order to know everything is charged, you’ll see a light going off and on around the “on” button and when it’s charged fully the light will go solid.

clarisonic-mia-12

I feel like the battery lasts a good while. I can use my cleanser for half a week to a week using it twice daily and nightly.

Over-all, I’ve been loving this cleansing brush! 🙂 It’s been in my cleansing regimen for the past few months and I feel like my skin has stayed mostly clear, the texture is much better and my skin is verrry clean after using it. My skin doesn’t look so hot when I’m not using it.

I would warn you that the first week or 2 using it – you will break out. It’s not because this brush is irritating your skin or anything like that but rather it’s cleaning your skin so well that all those impurities are coming out. Wait it out.. keep using it.. and thank me later. <3 If you use this right, you’ll love it.

Do any of you own a Clarisonic cleansing brush? What are your thoughts?

Cult Perfumes Book and Elements Perfumed Candles

cult-perfumes

If you’ve not seen the book Cult Perfumes: The World’s Most Exclusive Perfumeries, you should definitely get your hands on it. Cult Perfumes, by Tessa Williams, is an exploratory book that details more than 25 different perfumeries around the world. Not only that, but you get to know the history of perfumes – how far back they can be found, as well as what they were made of, how they’re made, and who made them.

In this book you learn that perfume has not only been a huge part of the beauty world, but it’s been used to cure illnesses such as the Bubonic Plague as well as depression, headaches, and other mental and physical ailments.

perfumes

Some of the perfumeries noted in this book are :

Diptyque (a Paris-based company who also makes candles)

Floris (England’s oldest perfumery – started in 1730! Also, the second oldest perfumery in the world.)

Jo Malone London (A brand that’s now owned by EstĂ©e Lauder but was started in an apartment by Jo Malone who aimed to bring new and uncomplicated fragrances out to the public. After starting a shop, her fragrances were noticed by high-profile celebrities and business took off. )

Santa Maria Novella (First founded in 1221 and then officially opened publically in 1612, they make Pot-Pourri, soaps, as well as perfumes.)

If you’re a big fan of perfumes, I would highly recommend this book to you. It’s a well-written, and in depth look at perfume and exclusive perfumeries.

Along with Cult Perfumes: The World’s Most Exlusive Perfumeries, Tessa has created candles based on the 4 elements: Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. You can find them in both London at Roullier White and now in the USA at Scent Bar in Los Angeles! 🙂

Fire is meant to be reminiscent of sitting by a fire in a log cabin. It has notes of Vetivert (a tall grass found in India and Tahiti), Tonka ( similar to vanilla), wood, Patchouli, Coconut, Vanilla caramel and hints of smoke.

Water was made to be invigorating and to heighten the senses. You’ll find notes of citrus, Jasmine, and floral notes. Sounds like my type of fragrance 🙂

Earth makes you think of walking trails and being outdoors. It has hints of Geranium, lemon and orange, pepper, Patchouli and Sandalwood, Cedar wood and leather.

Air reminds you of being on a tropical island because it’s citrus-y and invigorating. In this there are grapefruit scents, as well as ginger root, lemon grass, coriander seeds, and lemon peel.

Tessa is extremely passionate about both her book and her candles so if these sound like something you’d like, please support her by checking them out. 🙂

You can check out her website at: http://www.tessawilliams.co.uk/

and again, her candles can be found at Roullier White in London and Scent Bar in Los Angeles, California.

 CIAO! 🙂

What I Love to Watch on Netflix

netflixSource

I feel like, by now , most people can call themselves Netflix aficionados. With so many great shows, a low price, and unlimited watch times, how could you not enjoy Netflix? 🙂 I wanted to share some of my favorite series with you.

Breaking Bad

breaking badSource

This is one of my favorite shows ever. It sounds really bad when you see what it’s about, but it all makes sense. Walter White is a high school chemistry teacher who finds out he has cancer. Not knowing what to do, he decides to team up with an old student of his (a drug dealer) to learn how to make Crystal Meth. That way his family is not burdened with the cost of medical bills and they can have financial stability. What makes the whole story crazy is that he doesn’t let his family or friends know he makes Meth.. Everything evolves from there. I love the difference in characters on here. I feel like every single actor they chose was perfect for their part. It’s funny, dark, and brilliant. The story line is flawless and it gets more and more intense — but in a good way. Walter White is brilliant! You see him turn from timid and nerdy to manipulative and assertive. He truly shows what a master mind he is. I feel like the finale was incredible too.

The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead Source

This show is all about survivors in a zombie apocalypse. I am in <3 with zombie films and shows. I always have been. Not sure why.. haha. Is it creepy? 😀 There are so many characters from different backgrounds in this show but they all work together because they have one thing in common — and that’s staying alive. Of course, in a perfect world, everyone would get along with each other but on here they don’t. It’s interesting seeing where their moral compasses lie. Sometimes they have to do things that are unthinkable like killing their friends because they’re infected. You really see their characters transform.

Bob’s Burgers

Bob's BurgersSource

This show is hilarious. It’s about Bob Belcher and his family who own a burger shop. I find the characters are pretty funny. The relationship between the mom, Linda, and Bob remind me of my husband and I. He’s not always sunshine and rainbows and I am always singing or humming and dancing around or excited about things. Tina Belcher, the daughter, is socially awkward and boy crazed. It’s funny seeing her interactions with everyone. The youngest kids Gene and Louise are crazy and they get themselves into some interesting situations. Definitely something to watch if you’re up for a comedy.

How I Met Your Mother

How I Met Your Mother

A story told from Ted to his kids about him and his 4 friends from New York and their many adventures and how he met their mother. This show is one I could not stop watching. In fact, I own 6 out of 9 seasons. I really need to complete my collection. Ted is a hopeless romantic, Robin is a newscaster, Barney is a player, and Lily and Marshall are a couple who have been together for years. As you can see, an interesting combination.. but they’re all best friends. It reminds me of Friends a bit. It’s got its comic parts but it also has very serious parts. Totally made me cry a few times. Haha 🙂 If you’re in college or above, you’ll enjoy this show.

Food Documentaries

Fat Sick and Nearly Dead

Forks Over Knives
Food, Inc.Source Source Source
I’ve always had a fascination with nutrition and health so I’m a big lover of health documentaries and videos. The great thing is that Netflix has loads of different documentaries to choose from. These are a few interesting ones they’ve had on there. Hippocrates said “Let food be thy medicine” and a lot of these films explain how you can use food to, basically, reverse different sicknesses and be your medicine. I’d definitely suggest watching these.

What are you watching on Netflix, currently?

Weekend Project: Mirrored Canvas

WEEKEND

This week’s weekend project is inspired by Pinksofoxy (now Christine Kobzeff), a vlogger from Youtube. 🙂 She made a really cool mirrored canvas and I wanted to try to make one as well. Definitely check out her videos. She has some really great ideas for projects and organization.

Here is what you’ll need for this project:

A mirror to break up

(As Christine said, I got the long mirror in the back in Lowes for 5 dollars.) The really cute mirrors were on clearance from $25 to $9! Those are actually for another project, but I thought I’d throw those in there. Gotta love a great deal.

Standard Grout Sponge

Ground Steel Ceramic Floor Trowel

Caulking Gun

Mirror Adhesive

Gloves

Bucket

2ftx2ft Plywood Paneling 1/8 thick or more

1inx2in Boards

Sanded Grout (any color you like)

supplies-for-project

border1I had my husband help me with this. We framed the back of the plywood paneling so that it would be sturdy and not flop around. This is where your screws and 1inx2in boards will come into play.

screwsYou can see here where we put the screws. We couldn’t find any the size we wanted. Since they ended up being long, we had the wood sit on its longer side.

mirror

After framing, you’ll want to break apart your mirror. We did this on a trash bag in the kitchen but I would recommend doing this outside. We live in an apartment so we could only do what we could.

assemblingmirrorStart assembling your mirror pieces how you want them. I loved the look of Christine’s starburst design so I wanted to go with a similar theme. Pretty much, you want to get an idea of where you’re going to glue them down without actually doing so.

jjjjjjNext, take your adhesive and start pressing your pieces into place. I let mine dry for 30 mins. to an hour just to be on the cautious side.

groutYou’ll want to now start mixing grout.  Follow the directions on the bag. 🙂

slather-it-onStart slathering the grout around the canvas with your sponge or you can use a grout spatula like we used. You want to cover everything.

smoothingI wore some gloves and smoothed everything down.

sponge-grout

Once you’ve got everything looking totally messy and covered, take your sponge, dip it in a bowl of water, wring it out, and  begin to (layer by layer) work the grout off the mirrored pieces. Do this in a smooth motion so everything looks even.

Let this dry for a day or so, wipe off the mirror pieces so there’s no cloudiness  on them, and you’re done!! :))

finished-mirror

 The finished project.

I hope you’ll try this out. It does take a bit of work but it’s really fun. 🙂

Have a wonderful weekend!
