How I Got My Hair to Grow Back After Pregnancy

Among the many things that happen during or after pregnancy is the unpleasant surprise of learning that you may lose clumps of your hair and have bald spots. :O I wish I could write a book about all the things I learned during and after pregnancy. There’s so much that you’re not told when you become pregnant. I’m not sure if women want you to hear all the wonderful things about pregnancy so they don’t scare you off, or if they just simply forget. Either way, I learned a lot during and after those 9 months of my pregnancy.

One day, while I was pregnant, I ran my hands through my hair in the shower and out came a handful of hair. I have thick hair, so I’m used to pulling out some. But when I saw twice as much hair in my hand, I became worried. As the months went on, my hair wasn’t stopping coming out. I had read that during pregnancy a lot of women get luscious, beautiful hair, but mine was looking and feeling far from that. Months after I had had my baby, my hair was still not growing back, and I was feeling really self-conscious about my hair.

I took my prenatal vitamins, I drank water, I brushed my hair, but nothing was working to help my hair grow back.  I went on my phone and happened to see an Insta Story of a girl that I love following on Instagram and she had raved about a product called Vital Proteins. She mentioned how it helps your hair and nails because it is collagen. I’m no stranger to taking hair, skin and nails products, but I was desperate to find something that ACTUALLY worked. I decided to email them and ask if I could try their products out. They happily obliged and sent me their Collagen Peptides as well as their Collagen Beauty Greens.

When the products showed up to my house, I quickly ripped them open to try them out.

I’ve been using them for months now (the Collagen Peptides more than the Collagen Beauty Greens) and I can say that they WORK. Like, ACTUALLY WORK. Within a month of taking the Collagen Peptides my hair was growing back and I could notice the baby hairs sticking out my hair. I can’t tell you the amount of joy I had seeing my hair start to fill back in. There’s a confidence that comes from little things like that.

What I love about the Collagen Peptides and the Collagen Beauty greens is that you can use them in both cold or hot drinks. I, personally, like to put my Collagen Peptides in a hot drink like a hot chocolate. I’ve put it in apple juice before and it makes a weird texture and flavor, which I don’t love. You can mix these both up into smoothies and they’re wonderful. The Collagen Peptides have no flavoring really and the Collagen Beauty Greens have a slightly fishy taste due to having marine collagen in them. They also raw greens in them so there is that taste as well. Hence, why I say to put them in a smoothie. They’re not my favorite flavor. Two great things in the Collagen Beauty Greens is that they also contain Hyaluronic Acid which is great for joints and skin and they contain Probiotics, which are good for digestion.

Would I recommend these? Yes, yes I would. I think they work wonderfully. I would choose the Collagen Peptides over the Collagen Beauty Greens as far as taste, but I think Vital Proteins has done an incredible job making these products. I’m tempted to wrap this up in a friend’s baby shower gift next time! 😀

Lasting Lip Color with LipSense

I was introduced to LipSense through Instagram where I instantly fell in love with so many of the colors. In case you didn’t know what LipSense is, it’s a long-lasting, liquid lip color that dries on your lips and is waterproof. You can find loads of LipSense distributor pages on Instagram that are full of color swatches of their lip colors. While browsing Instagram, I found the sweetest distributor by the name of Kayla. She sent me a collection that included a LipSense color, Glossy gloss, and Ooops! Remover.

Hazelnut LipsenseKayla helped me choose a color I loved and even though she didn’t have it in stock at the moment, she found it quickly for me through a friend who also sells LipSense. My lip kit was shipped quickly and she also provided a tracking number for me so I could see where it was.  Kayla also allowed me to join her Facebook group which contained tons of videos and information on how to apply LipSense which was very helpful.
LipSense Glossy Gloss

Applying LipSense is a little confusing at first, but it gets much easier the more you apply it. You actually apply it by layers. Here’s a video to explain some tips and tricks and also how to apply it:

Here are my thoughts since trying LipSense:

Pros

  • I like that the color lasts longer than your typical lipstick. Instead of constantly re-applying, you basically apply once and you’re set all day.
  • The Glossy gloss is soooo smooth. I usually have pretty dry lips and I love wearing glosses because they are so moisturizing. The Glossy gloss does not disappoint.
  • There are loads of gorgeous colors to choose from that compliment all complexions.

Ooops! Remover

Cons

  • I don’t like the taste or smell of LipSense at first. It does dry, but before it dries, it tastes and smells like chemicals.
  • Ooops! Remover can take a little bit of time to work so if you’re looking to take LipSense off quickly, you’re going to need some patience.
  • The application can take a few minutes to do which is not as easy as applying a regular lipstick.

Hazelnut LipSense

Overall, I like LipSense. The fact that you are able to apply it in the morning and it can last most of the day is cool. I like that you are also able to apply several colors in layers to create a different color. Like I said, the process for applying LipSense is not very hard but it does take patience and time.

If you’d like to order any Senegence products, reach out to Kayla! She is super sweet and will help you with all your needs. You can find her on her facebook group HERE and her Instagram page HERE.

PinkBlush Maternity Review + Giveaway

Pinkblush-maternity-5

Hello lovely friends,

I thought I’d do a fun little maternity fashion post for you from PinkBlush Maternity. So, in case you hadn’t heard the news on my Instagram, John and I are expecting a little girl! 🙂 When I heard the news, I couldn’t contain my excitement. I cried happy tears and had the biggest smile on my face. I’ve had recurring dreams since I was younger that I had a little girl so it’s honestly a dream come true.

This Friday, I will be 28 weeks pregnant and entering my third trimester! Crazy, I know. It’s been a crazy ride so far, but I’m loving every second of it. As far as most pregnancies go, I feel like I’ve had it easier than others.. at least compared to stories I’ve heard. The only things I’d really say I have any issues with are my achy body, feeling tired/lack of sleep, and finding maternity clothes that not only fit well but feel and look good.

Pinkblush-maternity-3

Ever since I’ve become pregnant I’ve been looking up shops through Instagram that carry cute maternity clothing. One shop that I’ve come back to over and over again is PinkBlush Maternity. They have trendy and beautiful clothing pieces that are perfect for women who want to feel and look cute throughout their pregnancy. I’ll admit that since I’ve become pregnant I don’t always feel very glamorous or cute. Having a changing body can do that to someone. Many days I wear yoga pants and large shirts so it’s nice to have a change up.

Pinkblush-maternity-2

PinkBlush Maternity allowed me to review one of their beautiful, chiffon maternity dresses and I couldn’t be more happy with it. What I love about this dress:  it’s made of quality material, has a gorgeous, floral pattern, it fits my curvy body, and it isn’t too short. I’m 5’8 so finding dresses that aren’t very short is somewhat hard for me. Something else I love about this dress is that everything is covered. You know when you buy a dress and the underlining is pretty much see-through or only comes halfway up the dress?! That drives me nuts. The lining of this dress comes all the way down to the bottom and is opaque so you don’t have to worry. You can wear this dress summer or fall because the sleeves are 3/4 length and the dress flows so it keeps you cool.

Pinkblush-maternity-4

PinkBlush Maternity has so many other clothing items if dresses aren’t your thing. They have hospital robes, active wear, tops, and bottoms. You can also find cute shoes, bags, hats, sunglasses and more in their shop.

I wanted to share PinkBlush Maternity with my friends, so we’ve teamed up to bring you a $75 gift card! It can be used on anything on the website. All you have to do is like/comment on my Instagram post about the giveaway. If you like both, then you get 2 entries. A bonus third entry if you share the post on Instagram and tag me and PinkBlush Maternity! 🙂 If you’ve previously won a PinkBlush Maternity giveaway in the past 3 months, you won’t be eligible to win. Good luck to you all! 🙂

VII O2M Oxygen Eye Mask Being Worn

So, what was my experience like with the eye masks?

Because of the mask’s ingredients like aloe, the  VIIcode O2M Oxygen eye masks are cool to the touch. What’s cool is they stay cool on your skin for hours. I have used the masks both during the day as well as at night and I found that they don’t really shift around at all. I move around a lot in my sleep and I haven’t had any problems.

The VIIcode O2M Oxygen eye masks have a really soft, gel-like texture and I thought that made them extremely comfortable for me to wear. It’s definitely rejuvenating wearing these. After several hours, the gel dries up and I like that while the gel  is not dry, it doesn’t leave a sticky residue on your skin when you take the masks off.

After wearing these masks, I have noticed my under eyes feel soft, the puffiness has gone, and very fine lines seem to disappear.

These masks retail for $55 a box.

VIIcode has given me a Black Friday code for their Oxygen Eye Masks on Amazon (<—Link here). 🙂

Use code RQLQ-QPAB5X-89C82H for $5 off. This code expires 11/30/15.

Luminess Air : Airbrush Makeup System

Luminess Air

Using an airbrush makeup system is one of the best ways to get both an even and sanitary makeup application. Both professional makeup artists and professional photographers have been known to use airbrushed makeup on their clients.

This past month, I was able to try the Luminess Air : Legend Airbrush System and it was much different from my typical makeup routine!

Luminess Air Airbrush

How Does the Luminess Air Work?

The Luminess Air uses a constant air flow from a compressor. The air travels up a tube, through a needle inside the stylus and then comes out the end of the stylus. Foundation is squeezed into the stylus from a cup up top. (It doesn’t spray out unless you pull the trigger.) You use your finger to pull back the trigger on the stylus and the foundation is sprayed out evenly from its tip. Depending on how far back you pull the trigger, you get different amounts of product sprayed out.

How to Use the Luminess Air

  1. Shake up your foundation bottle.
  2. Hold the stylus like a pencil.
  3. Turn the compressor on.
  4. Squeeze 8 or more drops of foundation into the cup on top of the stylus.
  5. When you’re ready to use the airbrush, pull back the trigger and move your wrist in circular motions around your face.
  6. For more coverage, allow each coat of the foundation to dry and apply more.

Luminess Air Airbrush

How to Clean the Luminess Air

Here’s a video from Luminess Air explaining in-depth how to clean the airbrush system.

My Thoughts on the Luminess Air

I think the Luminess Air is fairly easy to use. It has decent coverage, but I wouldn’t say it has amazing coverage for acne prone skin. In my opinion, it would be best to use a concealer underneath if you tend to have spots. It does take a bit of practice to use but as long as your finger and wrist are loose, you won’t need to worry too much about using too much product at once. The main thing is to work in circular motions and not linger in one spot  for too long so you don’t have caked makeup.

Because you’re able to control the amount of product that comes out of the machine, you don’t need to worry about getting your hair and eyes covered in foundation. You’re not going to be blasted with product like you would with hairspray or something similar. It’s a nice even mist of product.

I like that the system uses water-based makeup so my skin doesn’t feel gross and oily. I really hate that feeling when putting on makeup. I think that’s why I like a lot of matte formula products that use either clay or water based makeup.

Luminess Air After

What My Luminess Air Kit Included

Luminess Air Foundations

Luminess Air Matte foundation shades 1-4.

I chose to have the Matte airbrush foundations because I don’t really like having a shiny face. I received shades 1-4. Shade 1 seems to be great for my olive-toned skin – especially now that I’m slightly pale during the fall. I sometimes mix shades 1 and 2 together to create a different shade.

Primer, Brightening Glow, and Blush

Luminess Airbrush Moisturizer/Primer, which contains Vitamin E and olive extracts , Luminess Skin Brightening Glow, and Luminess Air Airbrush Blush : Tulip 3N

Luminess Air Cleaning Bottle and Charger

Luminess Air Airbrush Cleaning Bottle and Charger

There are several different Luminess Air systems to choose from which range in price from $169-$399. You can find their systems in different places like Amazon as well as their website. Luminess Air has everything from skin products to eyeliners, as well as lipsticks and lip glosses.

Jealous Body Scrub – Grapeseed and Macadamia

jealous-body-scrub-macadamia-and-grapeseed__

If you’ve read my previous post on Jealous Body Scrub, you’d know that I absolutely love this scrub. It doesn’t just exfoliate and moisturize, it really transforms your shower or bath with its rich aroma.

Jealous Body sent me over one of their new scrubs to try — Grapeseed + Macadamia and I really liked it. It’s got a few different ingredients than the last..

Ingredients:

  • robusta coffee beans — ground
  • grapeseed oil
  • macadamia nut oil
  • raw brown sugar
  • sea salt
  • vitamins A & E

What It’s Meant to Do

Exfoliate. Tighten skin & treat acne. Balance out oil production. Protect & repair skin with its vitamins. Leave skin feeling soft and smooth.

jealous-body-scrub-grapeseed__

My Thoughts on the Scrub

My skin felt really soft after using it and even though I’ve got sensitive skin, the ingredients are so gentle that I don’t need to worry about breaking out or anything like that. I used this scrub in both the bath and shower and loved the rich aroma that enveloped my bathroom. I imagine myself in a coffee house or walking down the coffee aisle in the store (am I the only person who purposefully walks down that aisle because I love the aroma?).

I would say that after having used the coconut and coffee scrub I actually prefer the coconut scrub over this just because I feel like it moisturized my skin better and allowed me to really spread it around easily on my skin. However, both are great scrubs and I really have nothing bad to say about them.

If you’re interested in buying one of these scrubs you can buy these scrubs HERE.

I highly recommend them!

Each retails for $17.95.

Clarisonic Mia 2

clarisonic-mia-7

So, a while back I was given the opportunity from ProductTestingUSA.com to try out a Clarisonic Mia 2 ! 🙂 I was pretty stoked because I’d been hearing about them and heard loads of great things.

Unfortunately, I’m not someone who splurges on everything I like — it takes me years to pep talk myself into buying some things. (Example: any of the Naked palettes .. I’m in love with them <3 … yet, I still haven’t talked myself into spending $56 a piece. Why must you be so expensive?! 😐)

clarisonic-mia-8

Anyways, I’ve been really loving this cleansing brush! It doesn’t work like your typical cleansing brush – it uses sonic speeds and pulses which cleanses your face more thoroughly.

Here’s how Clarisonic explains it:

Unlike spinning devices, our patented sonic technology works with skin’s natural elasticity, oscillating at a sonic frequency that produces over 300 movements per second. The resulting flexing action works to loosen dirt and oil, removing deep-seated impurities from pores and priming skin to better absorb topical treatments.”

Sounds cool, right?

clarisonic-mia-9

Sooo.. my original face-washing routine was: grab lots of products, clean my face for like 5 mins, splash hot water on my face and then cold water, and then put lotion, etc on. After using the Clarisonic, my routine was cut down to 3 mins – tops! 🙂 I simply follow the face washing routine (twice) of: 10 seconds – forehead, 10 seconds – nose and chin, 20 seconds – one cheek, 20 seconds – the other cheek. Clarisonic recommends you do one round of 20 secs for chin and nose and then 20 for forehead and 10 for each cheek , but I don’t have very oily T-zones so I switched it up. I find that this works great for me. 🙂

clarisonic-mia-10

I’ll admit that it took me a bit to get used to it. Having had a spinning brush before this, I expected a similar feeling. After putting the brush to my face, I realized it is very gentle and doesn’t move all over the place. Instead, it just pulses super fast but not in an uncomfortable way. After one wash using this, my skin felt amazing! 🙂

clarisonic-mia-11

Here’s some cool features it has:

  • 2 Speeds – Delicate and Universal. I used delicate the first two weeks because I’ve got sensitive skin.
  • Cleans your skin 6x better than using just your hands!
  • A one minute timer that pulses when you need to move to the next zone.
  • It’s rechargeable & also waterproof 😀 Hooray!
  • Has a 2 year warranty.
  • You can switch out the brush head. They’ve got one for sensitive skin, acne, deep pore cleansing, body, combination skin, and several others. (Basically one for everyone. :))

By the way, the charger is freaking cool! 🙂 It’s magnetic so it snaps right on and it vibrates and makes a noise when it’s connected. In order to know everything is charged, you’ll see a light going off and on around the “on” button and when it’s charged fully the light will go solid.

clarisonic-mia-12

I feel like the battery lasts a good while. I can use my cleanser for half a week to a week using it twice daily and nightly.

Over-all, I’ve been loving this cleansing brush! 🙂 It’s been in my cleansing regimen for the past few months and I feel like my skin has stayed mostly clear, the texture is much better and my skin is verrry clean after using it. My skin doesn’t look so hot when I’m not using it.

I would warn you that the first week or 2 using it – you will break out. It’s not because this brush is irritating your skin or anything like that but rather it’s cleaning your skin so well that all those impurities are coming out. Wait it out.. keep using it.. and thank me later. <3 If you use this right, you’ll love it.

Do any of you own a Clarisonic cleansing brush? What are your thoughts?

*Disclaimer – I received this product free of charge. All opinions expressed are my own.

Cult Perfumes Book and Elements Perfumed Candles

cult-perfumes

If you’ve not seen the book Cult Perfumes: The World’s Most Exclusive Perfumeries, you should definitely get your hands on it. Cult Perfumes, by Tessa Williams, is an exploratory book that details more than 25 different perfumeries around the world. Not only that, but you get to know the history of perfumes – how far back they can be found, as well as what they were made of, how they’re made, and who made them.

In this book you learn that perfume has not only been a huge part of the beauty world, but it’s been used to cure illnesses such as the Bubonic Plague as well as depression, headaches, and other mental and physical ailments.

perfumes

Some of the perfumeries noted in this book are :

Diptyque (a Paris-based company who also makes candles)

Floris (England’s oldest perfumery – started in 1730! Also, the second oldest perfumery in the world.)

Jo Malone London (A brand that’s now owned by Estée Lauder but was started in an apartment by Jo Malone who aimed to bring new and uncomplicated fragrances out to the public. After starting a shop, her fragrances were noticed by high-profile celebrities and business took off. )

Santa Maria Novella (First founded in 1221 and then officially opened publically in 1612, they make Pot-Pourri, soaps, as well as perfumes.)

If you’re a big fan of perfumes, I would highly recommend this book to you. It’s a well-written, and in depth look at perfume and exclusive perfumeries.

Along with Cult Perfumes: The World’s Most Exlusive Perfumeries, Tessa has created candles based on the 4 elements: Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. You can find them in both London at Roullier White and now in the USA at Scent Bar in Los Angeles! 🙂

Fire is meant to be reminiscent of sitting by a fire in a log cabin. It has notes of Vetivert (a tall grass found in India and Tahiti), Tonka ( similar to vanilla), wood, Patchouli, Coconut, Vanilla caramel and hints of smoke.

Elements Candles by Tessa Williams

Water was made to be invigorating and to heighten the senses. You’ll find notes of citrus, Jasmine, and floral notes. Sounds like my type of fragrance 🙂

elements-water-candle

Earth makes you think of walking trails and being outdoors. It has hints of Geranium, lemon and orange, pepper, Patchouli and Sandalwood, Cedar wood and leather.

Air reminds you of being on a tropical island because it’s citrus-y and invigorating. In this there are grapefruit scents, as well as ginger root, lemon grass, coriander seeds, and lemon peel.

Tessa is extremely passionate about both her book and her candles so if these sound like something you’d like, please support her by checking them out. 🙂

Acure Organics

acure-products

I’ve been using an amazing brand of products for my skin for about the past few months and I love it. The brand is called Acure Organics and they’re a family owned company who make paraben-free, sulfate-free, and synthetic fragrance-free products for bodies, faces, and even products for babies. They don’t test on animals – which is awesome. What’s sweet is that Acure was founded as a way to honor the founder’s grandmother who battled beast cancer for years. They wanted to provide good products that promote healthy lifestyles, while also raising money for breast cancer research.

What I’ve been impressed with, is the fact that when I buy one of their products, I know I’m going to get a product that has exceptional ingredients that are good for my skin. Not only that, but their products are affordable for all budgets. 🙂 You can find some of their products in Target!

acure

Sensitive Facial Cleanser –  Cleanses your skin while not drying it out. I have used this every day this past month and love it. It lathers up nicely and when used with my Clarisonic Mia, my skin feels incredibly soft. My skin has also stayed clear while using this cleanser. It doesn’t have much of a scent so if you’re someone who isn’t much into scented cleansers, you’ll like this one.

What it contains: Coconut Oil, Rooibos, Acai, Chamomile, Argan Oil, Olive Oil, Probiotics, CoQ10, Pumpkin Seed and Sea Buckthorn Seed Oil, Vitamin E and some other ingredients including Omega Fatty Acids.

Price: $9.99

A moisturizing mask that draws out impurities. This mask is so gentle on the skin and leaves your skin feeling incredibly soft. It feels somewhat slimy and goopy – but it’s fantastic. It spreads on thinly and evenly and it doesn’t dry. I had had a few bumps on my skin and within the week they were gone. I made sure to leave this mask on the full time for optimal results and I think it worked wonderfully. I love the instructions!

acure-mask-instructions

What it contains: Acai Berry, Blackberry, Rosehips, Rooibos, French Green Clay, Chorella Growth Factor, Cocoa Butter, Algae, Sea Buckthorn, CoQ10, Argan Oil, Sage and Spearmint Essential Oils, Peony Stem Cell and Sweet Iris Stem Cell, plus some extra ingredients.

Price: $12.99

acure-day-cream

Acure Day Cream – A light-weight moisturizer that helps keep skin firm while keeping away free radicals. I really like this day cream because it smells citrus-y, which I love, and I don’t feel like it irritates my skin. A lot of times I put moisturizers on, my skin gets red and bothered. I use this both night and day and I’ve never felt like my pores are getting clogged when wearing this cream.

What it contains: Red Mandarin, Vitamin E, Clove, Evening Primrose Oil (wonderful for your skin!), Sunflower Seed Oil, Blackberry, Pomegranate, Chamomile, Gotu Kola, Probiotic, Argan Oil and other ingredients.

Price: $16.99

Unscented Argan Oil Cleansing Towelettes – Wipes you can use for both face and body to remove dirt and makeup. You can find these in Target, which is where I bought them. I have used these a bunch of times and I don’t mind them but I don’t love them. I think my skin is too sensitive to use these. The texture feels like fabric, which is really nice but I don’t feel like it gets my makeup off amazingly. When I used these near my eyes it burns. It has lots of oils in it but it also has Citric Acid, which I think is why it burns. I would not recommend using these near your eyes. I haven’t been able to get my eye makeup off well with these either, which is a big thing I look for in makeup wipes. The other thing I don’t particularly like is that these wipes lather on your face but I think because my skin is dry it just kind of sits on my skin and doesn’t particularly scrub or really clean my face. These may work wonderfully for someone else and I know there’s some great reviews on them – so, if you feel like trying them – I say do. I have loved almost all the Acure products I’ve tried minus these.

What it contains: Olive Oil, Water, Sesame Seed Oil, Argan Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Vitamin E, Citric Acid, other ingredients

Price: $6.99 – On sale for $5.00

Over-all, I really like this brand. You can tell they put a lot of really great ingredients into their products and that they care about their products. I think their pricing is fair and their products last quite a while.

Jealous Body Scrub – Coconut + Coffee

jealous-body-scrub-packaging

Happy Easter weekend, beauties! 🙂 It’s been so beautiful this week. I’m loving Spring!

After coming out of winter, my skin has been so dry. I’m sure most of you have had those issues. A wonderful company contacted me a few weeks ago called Jealous Body Scrub. They wanted me to try their Coffee + Coconut scrub and to share my thoughts.

First Impressions

I love the smell of coconut and I love the smell of coffee. So, you can imagine, I love the smell of this scrub. When I first opened the bag it smelled like roasted coffee beans..very relaxing, in my opinion.

I thought the packaging was cute. I love the brown paper bag look and the teal coloring of the logo. The inside of the bag has got a liner so everything stays together. I didn’t bring the bag into the shower with me just because I wasn’t sure what would happen so I put a handful of scrub in a mug and placed it on a shelf in the shower.

How To Use

After you’ve wet your skin in the shower, take out 2-3 scoops of this scrub, rub in circular motions all over your body and leave it on for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, rinse it off.

Benefits

Exfoliates

Hydrates

Increases blood flow

Helps repair and replenish skin

Helps to diminish dry skin, varicose veins, acne, and other skin issues.

Over-all Impressions

This scrub feels incredible. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first used this. Some scrubs can be very harsh – especially when you have dry skin. I found using this to be super relaxing 🙂 I used it in both circular and back and forth motions on my skin and both felt great. After my shower, my skin felt very moisturized and soft. Even after using my Olay body soap, my skin felt very soft still. I used this even under my arms so that I could get my lymph nodes stimulated and my blood flowing. I have had some issues in the past with swollen lymph nodes. I feel like this scrub has worked very well so far. I have no complaints that I can think of. It says it takes 4 weeks to really see results with varicose veins so I will see how that goes. It does get slightly messy in the shower but everything can easily be washed away. Well worth the tiny mess in my opinion. 🙂

Retail price: $17.95

Two Products That Will Help You Have Clear Skin + Giveaway!

I’ve used 2 products this week that have truly been wonderful for and helped me to have clear skin. The first is one that was given to me by Apothecary Extracts. It’s 100% pure Australian Tea Tree oil.

Firstly, you can use Tea Tree oil for so many things. I really had no idea it wasn’t just for skin. It’s anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial, so not only can you fix skin problems with it but you can clean with it as well or use it in your hair.

100-percent-pure-tea-tree-oil

I decided to use this for my spots because I’ve heard a lot of great things about Tea Tree oil for acne spots. I noticed that within a few days my spots were shrinking and going away. It says you should mix this with another oil at first but I wanted to use it by itself and I didn’t feel like I had any issues.

pure-tea-tree-oil

PROS:

Works well for acne

Has many uses

Great consistency

Bottle has a small hole in the top when opened so the oil doesn’t spill out everywhere

100% Pure

CONS:

Strong smell that makes me think of gasoline but it goes away fairly quickly and you don’t notice any more.

I really like this oil. So far it has proven to work pretty well. 🙂 I’ve used it every day for the past week and it’s consistently worked to make my spots smaller. I have seen girls mix this with their face masks which I think I will try soon and post for ya’ll. 🙂 I would definitely recommend this.

A large 4 ounce bottle is $25 but can easily last you a year or more. I barely use any when I cover my spots.

blackhead-and-whitehead-extractor

This is a blackhead and whitehead extractor I bought off Amazon by Malva Belle. It cost about $12 and it’s been one of the best investments I’ve ever made. I saw someone on YouTube using one of these and I immediately wanted one because I struggle with both black and white heads.

whitehead-extractor

The first end is the whitehead extractor. The loop goes around the whitehead and pulls the junk out. It all stays in the loop which is really nice.

blackhead-extractor
The flat side is the blackhead extractor. You run this down your nose, chin, etc., and it pulls all the little blackheads from the top of the skin into the loop.

This little tool makes clearing spots SO much easier. You don’t get scars, it’s not painful, and it works quickly. All you need to do is steam or clean your face so your pores are open. I’ve noticed that between using this and the Tea Tree oil, my skin has been mostly clear this week and that makes me really happy. My pores look smaller because they don’t have gunk in them.

Like I said before, I would highly recommend buying these. They work well and they work quickly. 🙂

What top skin care products do you recommend?

GIVEAWAY

Apothecary Extracts wants to give a free bottle away! 🙂 You will receive a code for a huge bottle like I have. Just simply leave a comment on my post!  This giveaway is open to US entrants only, sorry! You must have an Amazon account as well so you can use the code. 🙂

*Disclosure – I received the Tea Tree oil free of charge from Apothecary Extracts via Tomoson. All opinions are my own.

Foundation That Gives You a Natural Look

bare_mineralsx

Let’s just get this out there .. Having to do the same ol’ concealer, foundation, powder routine gets old. Sometimes you’d just like to have your face done in 5 minutes and actually feel like you look somewhat put together. Well, with Bare Minerals foundation you can.

Bare Minerals is a loose mineral powder that covers imperfections whilst also creating an even layer on your skin. Because it’s made up of minerals, it doesn’t have a drying effect on the skin.

golden fair bare minerals Source

My current shade is “Golden Fair” from the Bare Minerals matte foundation line. Its description is: “for the fairest of porcelain skin with yellow-olive tones”.

PROS OF USING BARE MINERALS

Lightweight
Even Coverage
Matte
No parabens or fillers
You only need to use a little
SPF of 15

CONS OF USING BARE MINERALS

None that I’ve found yet

I really like this foundation because it’s very simple to use and you don’t have to use a lot. You simply put a little bit in the lid, swirl a brush into it, tap away the excess, and buff it into your skin. It only takes a minute or so and you don’t have to really deal with using concealer or anything else because it’s basically an all-in-one product. Not only that, but it lasts a long time. You don’t have to worry about having to redo your makeup in an hour.

The price tag is $28 for a .21 oz. jar — which sounds a little steep, but with as much as you need to use daily, this lasts so long.

Definitely a must-try! 🙂 You can find more at Bareescentuals.com

Product Empties

Product Empties

I’m not one to really use up products that often.. so I thought I’d tell you my thoughts on some recent product empties.

Pure Silk – Rich & Luxurious Shave Cream: Raspberry Mist with Aloe

Pure Silk Shaving Cream Raspberry Mist

It goes on very foamy and gives a close, silky shave. I have never cut myself while using this so in my book that’s great. I honestly picked it up on a whim. Sometimes I just pick shower items at random when I’m in a hurry but I’m really glad I chose this one. The shaving cream’s can is made of rust-proof Aluminum, which I love. One of the hardest things to ever get off the shower is rust rings. I actually didn’t read the can until writing this review so when I had it in the shower I’d pick it up daily to see if there were rust rings and would you believe there weren’t any? 🙂 Really like this stuff.

Dr. Carver’s Easy Shave Butter

If you’ve ever tried Whish Shave Crave shaving cream, you’ll know that shave butter feels so smooth and silky. Unlike regular shaving cream, shave butter is like a gel/lotion consistency. I got this Dr. Carver’s Easy Shave Butter as a sample with my subscription to Dollar Shave Club. (I will tell you about that later.) 🙂 You get a really nice close shave with this and it’s great for sensitive skin like mine because you don’t get razor burn. It contains: Golden Barley, Prickly Pear Cactus, Oat Extract, Black Willow Bark as well as Algae. Prickly Pear Cactus is used for skin to help with cuts, and bruises and contains vitamins. Algae has amino acids as well as antioxidants so it keeps your skin soft. Oats are also great for your skin. 🙂 This shave butter’s scent is more for men in my opinion. It reminds me of a cologne, but I didn’t mind because it doesn’t last long. You can find their shave butter here: shave butter  or their website at DollarShaveClub.com .

Kroger – Pomegranate & Lemon Verbena Body Wash

Kroger Pomegranate Lemon Verbena Body Wash
As part of a BzzAgent opportunity, I got to try a few of Kroger’s beauty products for free. I got a coupon for a free body wash and this is the one I chose because it smelled really good. 🙂 At the top, you’ll see it says “Compare to Dove® go fresh® Pomegranate Lemon Verbena Revive Body Wash”. It does have a similar feel to Dove body wash. I like that it lathers very easily and isn’t too thick. It also doesn’t stay on your skin or dry it out which is really nice. I have dry skin as it is, so using this didn’t irritate it or dry it out further.

Wen – Fall (limited edition) Ginger Pumpkin Cleansing Conditioner

Wen Fall Ginger Pumpkin Conditioner

I’ve used Wen in the past, but never used it for a long time so I couldn’t give an accurate review on this until now. Here is what Wen says this product is :

WEN® Cleansing Conditioner is a revolutionary new concept in hair care. A 5-in-1 formula, this one product takes the place of your shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler and leave-in conditioner. It cleanses hair thoroughly without lathering or harsh ingredients. It’s designed not to strip your hair and scalp of natural oils, leaving your hair with more strength, moisture, manageability and better color retention.

I usually have dry and damaged hair that can get tangled at times. When first using this cleansing conditioner, I felt like I had to wash my hair afterwards because it seemed heavy and waxy. I told myself to not give up using it just because I’m not used to it and after using it for a week or two, I noticed my hair seems clean, smooth, shiny and I don’t have to wash it very often. When I flat-iron my hair, I don’t feel like I’m drying it out or going to have breakage. It feels strong. Not only that, but it’s got shine. I’m very happy for that. I would recommend this to those who have dry hair. I’m not sure how it would work with other hair types. Other than that, I think it smells pretty nice. It smells of pumpkin, cinnamon, and cloves. I don’t love the smell of cloves, but I don’t think this is bad. You can buy this at Wen.com

Crest 3D White Toothpaste

Crest 3D White Toothpaste Radiant Mint

If I’m being 100% honest, I can’t say I’ve seen a huge difference in my teeth after using this. I used it every single day, night and day, for a few months and it seems like most other toothpastes to me.

Pros: Has a nice, minty taste that’s not over-powering like some whitening toothpastes.
Nice gel consistency.

Cons: Didn’t see much difference in my teeth after using whole tube.

Over-all, I liked most the products I bought and would recommend almost all of them. If you’ve found some great brands with similar products, I’d love to hear about them.

Beauty Box 5 – 2nd Box

beauty-box-5

Remember in an earlier post I had written about getting 2 Beauty Box 5 boxes last month? Here’s box number 2. 🙂

la-fresh-travel-oil-free-makeup-wipes-
La Fresh Travel Lite Makeup Remover Wipes – These are paraben-free, oil-free makeup removing wipes that contain Aloe, Oat Kernel, and Cucumber Extracts. They’re very gentle. I have pretty sensitive skin so, unfortunately, I can tell when there are too harsh of chemicals in products. My face will turn red which it didn’t do with these. I found these are exceptionally gentle on my skin. They almost feel cloth-like which is awesome because most makeup wipes feel super thin and don’t have a great texture. I wear eyeliner on the daily and these took it right off. 🙂 They also smell pretty nice with a subtle perfumy scent. I wish I could describe better but I’m not sure how to describe it. Haha. My only hang up would be that they’re pretty expensive.

Full-Sized Price: $19.99 48 packets $2.49 pack of 8

Style-Essentials-Nail-Polish

Style Essentials Nail Polish – Ohh my gosh! Remember I told you I wanted something like this on my Christmas wish list?! It’s almost like they had read my mind about this. I really like this polish. It’s clear with flecks of white and black so you can wear it over different nail polishes. Super fun. 🙂

Full-Sized Price: Pack of 4 – $7.00

Purlisse-SPF-Moisturizer

Purlisse Pur Protect SPF 30 Moisturizer – A light-weight moisturizer containing : Blue Lotus, White tea, soy proteins, sea silk (a super thin fabric that comes from pen shells), and lupine peptides (which are said to renew the outer layer of the skin as well as help collagen and reduce wrinkles). It feels nice and sheer and doesn’t feel oily which I love. The white tea calms sensitive skin. I had no issues with that. It’s got vitamin E as well which is great for your skin. I would say the only thing I disliked was the smell of it because it’s a bit strong at first but after a while you don’t notice as much. Also, this is slightly out of what my price range would be for a sun screen.

Full-Sized Price: $55.00 1.7 oz

Nanacoco-Lip-Gloss

Nanacoco Lip Gloss – This is a fully pigmented lip gloss with vitamin E that isn’t sticky .. which is awesome. 😀 When I first tried this gloss, I wasn’t a fan. I’m not a huge lip gloss wearer. I always feel like it wears off too fast and it’s slippery. Hahaha. I’d much prefer a lipstick over any lipgloss but this lipgloss is not half-bad. It’s got a beautiful hot pink-ish color. It’s a bit thicker than most as well so it doesn’t seem as liquidy. Over-all, not too bad.

Full-Sized Price: $3.99 0.22 fl oz

hair-food
Novex Brazilian Keratin Hair Treatment – This is like an ultra-moisturizing treatment that you leave in for 25 minutes after shampooing. It’s great for when you have damaged hair because Keratin is the main protein that makes up hair. I really like the smell of it. It reminds me of Pantene shampoo or something similar. 🙂 It gives your hair a little bit of a pick me up for times when it’s damaged or feeling course.

Full-Sized Price: $19.50 for 2 lbs. Not too bad.

I liked this box a bit more than the other box. I can’t wait to receive my December box and see what’s in store.

*Disclaimer : I had a subscription to this box. I did not receive these products for free and as with all posts, my opinions are my own. 🙂

Ciao! 🙂

Kneipp Product Review

kneipp-jojoba-massage-oil

In the past few months, I’ve gotten the pleasure of getting to know this wonderful company called Kneipp. I love the story of who they are and why they are and I adore their products. What they offer is natural products based on the holistic philosophy of Sebastian Kneipp.

Sebastian Kneipp was a naturopath and priest and when he was younger he had an extreme case of tuberculosis. Happening to stumble across a hydrotherapy book, he decided to immerse himself every so often into the freezing waters of the Danube river. With those sudden shocks to his system, he actually strengthened it and even put his tuberculosis into remission! Because of this, Sebastian decided to dedicate his life to utilizing the healing properties of water.

As Sebastian got older, he made friends with a pharmacist who also believed in naturopathy and they created products from natural plant extractions and created products that Kneipp to-this-day uses as a basis in their products. Kneipp has been manufacturing health and wellness products since 1891! Their main site is actually in Germany but they’ve got employees world-wide.

Here are some of their products: kneipp-enjoy-life-bath Enjoy Life Bath with May Chang & Lemon – Said that it is mood-improving, refreshing and uplifting 🙂 This has Sunflower seed oil, Lemon peel, May Chang and Citronella oil. May Chang is a citrus-y smelling evergreen that is mostly found in China and Indonesia. Sources say it is antibiotic, anti-infectious, and anti-inflammatory. This fragrance will lift your spirits. I find that citrus smells are invigorating and help you feel at ease. If you know how much I love cleaning, you know I love the smell of clean. lol . This makes your skin feel soft, too. 🙂

Soft Skin Bath with Almond Blossom – This is for both dry and sensitive skin. I’ve got both, unfortunately. The fortunate news is that this contains:

  1. Almond Oil – Rich in A, B, and E vitamins and is great for your skin! It’s super moisturizing and anti-inflammatory.
  2. Guaiacwood Oil – Used as a fragrance and has notes that are honey, floral, and woody. Used as aromatherapy it is anti-inflammatory, stress-relieving, and a lymphatic decongestant.
  3. Orange Flower Extract – Smells amazing and is soothing.

kneipp-stress-free-bath-mandarin-orange Stress-Free Bath with Mandarin & Orange – Contains Mandarin Orange Peel and Orange Peel. I think it smells really nice. I love how this foams in the bathtub. (Not to say this is a bubble bath. It’s not.) It also dilutes in the bathtub. There are directions on the bottle but you can pour in what you’d like. The only thing I’d be careful of is that it does have dye in it and will semi-dye your hands if it gets straight on them haha. Other than that, very relaxing and smells wonderful. Not too strong of a fragrance.

Anti-Callus Salve with Calendula and Rosemary – Contains Jojoba oil, Beeswax, Rosemary, Orange Oil, and Carnauba Wax. I really wanted to try this on my husband and see what his results are. He walks all day long with a 60 lb camera in his hands so this would be perfect for him. But, I tried it on myself and it was extremely moisturizing. I didn’t love the smell, but hey, if it works , it works! 🙂 I’ll have to experiment on my husband soon lol.

Jojoba Massage Oil – Contains Jojoba, Primrose, Avocado, Cymbopogon Martini , and Cinnamomum  Cassia(Cinnamon) Leaf Oils. Loved this oil. It’s very moisturizing, it smells nice (not too overwhelming) and it’s very relaxing. Smells sort of Christmas spice-y but not super strong. My husband and I used to go to a massage school and get massages but since we moved, we haven’t had the chance to get a massage. We’ve taken turns using this and it’s super relaxing. 🙂 I would totally recommend buying this for yourself but also for a relaxing go-to for your spouse or loved-one. Trust me, they’ll love you.

So far, I’m totally impressed with Kneipp. They have great products for all different circumstances and their products are of great quality.

If you’d like to buy any products from them go to : http://kneippus.com/

All of their products are fairly inexpensive.

*Disclaimer – I did receive these products free of charge. As with all posts, my opinions are my own.

Beauty Box 5 – 1st Box

beauty box 5

Because I love trying new beauty products, I’ve enjoyed trying new beauty boxes. Last month, I saw that Beauty Box 5 had a deal where you could get one box for $12 and get another free. I thought, “why not“?

I want to say that I’m enamored by their boxes– but to tell the truth, they fell a bit flat for me. Granted, you can’t judge a beauty box by your first try, so I will be seeing what December’s box brings..

These boxes weren’t perfect but there were some decent items.. here’s what my fist box consisted of:

Dove-Shampoo

Dove Deep Moisture Nourishing Body Wash: I don’t mind Dove products. They seem to have pretty decent products. This body wash smells really good and doesn’t dry out my skin.

Full sized product (22 oz.): $6.49

Dentek-FlossDenTek Floss Picks + Case: Slightly confused why these were in a beauty box but I agree with BB5’s tip to keep them in your purse in those odd times you may need them. Preferably, when on a date for dinner, etc. Only qualm — a lil’ expensive. I feel like I can buy a bag of 100 for about the same price.

Full-Sized Price: $2.49 (4 count)

laura-ashley-italian-lemon-body-butter-

Laura Ashley Body Butter in “Italian Lemon”: This body butter, to me, smelled like lemon cleaning product. 🙁 Yuck. It is super thin, almost watery feeling, so it kind of evaporates into your skin. Weirdly enough it seems to make your skin pretty soft. I would be curious what the other scents smell like. Some of the others are: Cherry Blossom, Sweet Peony, Italian Lemon, Coconut Lime, and Spring Lavender. I’d love to try Cherry Blossom. I received a full-sized one.

Full-Sized Price: $20 (1.75 oz)

eye-light-crayon-nicka-k

Nicka K New York Eyelight Crayon: A glide-on shadow stick. In the bottom cap there’s a sharpener so you can use it as an eyeliner. Not my fav color. It’s a dark metallac-y  green. I do wonder, however, how this would work as a primer for  a smokey eye look. Hmmm. I received a full-sized version of this a well.

Full-Sized Price: $4.49 (0.056 oz)

macadamia-oil-hair-treatment

Hask  Revitalizing Shine Oil: A Macadamia nut oil that’s great for your hair. It both moisturizes and adds shine. Macadamia nuts contain:

  1. Palmitoleic fatty acid — and is one of the highest sources for it. It delays cell aging.
  2. Oleic acid, which has moisturizing properties.
  3. Linoleic acid – prevents water loss from skin through evaporation.

They’re great for dry hair/skin. I really love Hask Macadamia products. They’ve worked well for me.

Full-sized Price: $2.99 (5/8 fl oz)

Over-all, not a bad box but it wasn’t my favorite products. If BB5 had an account manager like Birchbox, I think they’d be better off. I’ll be posting my second box some time soon..so keep an eye out.

Disclaimer: These boxes were paid for by myself. I had a monthly subscription. All opinions are my own. 🙂

Any Beauty Box 5’ers out there? What have you thought of their boxes?
